In September, the Constitutional Court ruled that same-sex couples had the right to adopt children and that laws that prevented them from doing so violated the Constitution.

The South African Government established the Media Development and Diversity Agency with a mandate to fund and promote media diversity.

In partnership with the NPA and the Legal AID Board, OSF-SA helped initiate and fund the Thuthuzela Rape Investigation and the Plea Bargaining Demonstration Projects.

OSF-SA also supported the implementation and evaluation of community safety forums, crime prevention strategies, and strategies promoting women’s safety. It also led advocacy on the Child Justice Bill.

The Human Rights Programme strategy was revised to focus on increasing access to justice, addressing corruption, and promoting good governance at the municipal level.
